5 Ways to Actually Enjoy Monday
It’s Monday again. The weekend is over, you went to bed late, and all you can think about is the five days standing between you and the next weekend. Monday is one of the hardest days to get through, and we know it can be demoralizing when you wake up and realize how much you have to tackle in the week.
The thing is, Mondays happen. They will always be there, so instead of trying to endure, why not try to enjoy? Here are five things you can do to make Mondays a little more tolerable.
1. Get up earlier than you normally would.
You’ve probably heard this before, but trust me, from one morning grump to another, waking up early truly makes your day better. You are more awake when you get to work, you feel more productive, and you get to spend some extra time with yourself. The number of hours we have to ourselves in a day are few, so waking up even a half hour earlier than normal and spending it on you feels like treating yourself.
Listen to a 10-15 minute meditation track. Here are a few of the ten thousand benefits of meditation: reduced stress, increased creativity, expanded consciousness, a feeling of restfulness, and a deepened focus. These are things that can make Mondays totally doable. You can meditate in the morning, take a small break at work for it, or do it before bed to quiet your mind at the end of the day.
3. Plan something you love doing.
Usually, when you wake up on Mondays, the only thing you are looking forward to is the upcoming weekend. You think about all of the work days you have to get through until you can relax and have fun again. Fulfilling, right? Plan something in the evening so you have something to look forward to that day. Everyone’s different, so whether you love cuddling up on the couch and watching Netflix, having dinner with your friends, crafting, writing, dancing, working out, or knitting, wake up on Monday knowing that you are going to do something you enjoy in the evening, and get excited about it.
4. Go for a walk.
This can seriously shift your Monday from mundane to invigorating. I know it’s hard sometimes to take a break from your work schedule, but you’ll be more productive afterward. Walking has been proven to boost creativity, impact your mood, and wake you up.
5. Chug some water.
You might want to run directly to the coffee machine first thing in the morning, but consider reaching for a glass of water instead. When you are dehydrated you are tired, unmotivated, and grumpy. Drinking lots of water helps boost your energy and reduces stress by raising your cortisone levels. It also speeds up your metabolism and helps build muscle tone — so why wouldn’t you give it a try?
