You may already belong to a book club, or maybe you have never considered joining one. Either way, you are probably unaware of just how beneficial being a part of one truly is. We think they are pretty great, plus it gives you a reason to take those cozy reading socks outside of your house and show em’ off. Keep scrolling and find out 5 ways joining a book club will enrich your life.
1. IT WILL LOWER YOUR STRESS LEVELS.
Losing yourself in a book is the ultimate relaxation. Think about it, you shut off the distractions and give your mind a chance to relax and wander (plus the wine and snacks that often accompany the act aren’t too bad either!). So sit back, relax, and make some time for yourself.
2. IT BOOSTS YOUR CREATIVITY.
There is no denying that reading helps flex those mind muscles - it makes you focus, expand your vocabulary, and use your imagination. Being a part of a book club takes it one step further. By listening to others’ opinions, don’t be surprised if you start to stretch your thinking and find new ways to approach a situation.
3. YOUR CONFIDENCE WILL INCREASE.
Getting personal or sharing your honest opinion isn’t always easy, and it takes a space in which you feel comfortable to be able to open up. Joining a book club will help you discover a way to give voice to your ideas, and will also teach you how to help others understand your perspective.
4. YOU WILL LIVE LONGER (WE’RE SERIOUS).
Social interaction is critical for mental and physical health. Being a part of a regular meet-up or club helps keep that all-important social connection alive, which can honestly be tough to maintain. Moving to a new city, going through a break-up, or losing someone close to you can all cause you to lose touch with your social network…that’s life, and the big events that come along with it. But fear not, you can keep yourself healthy and engaged with others by joining a book club.
5. YOU’LL GET TO KNOW YOURSELF (AND OTHERS) BETTER.
A book club is honestly a form of therapy. You may come to terms with past mistakes, you will gain new insight from the people around you, get a better understanding of relationships, or even develop the courage to tackle something new based on somebody else’s experience.
Are you ready to jump in and join a book club? Do it. It’s good for you.
