A day where you get to shower your female friends with more love than usual? This is one fake holiday we are a-okay with (alright… National Pizza Day is right up there too). If you’ve never heard of this unofficial holiday, Galentine’s Day was declared by Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) of Parks and Recreation, and is all about, “ladies celebrating ladies”. Like the holiday it precedes, it’s a day dedicated to showing those important people in your life how much they mean to you — it’s cheesy, it’s a little bit goofy (it is a made-up holiday after all), and we are all for it. If you are on board and looking for some ideas on how to celebrate this February 13th, keep reading.
1. Head to a Local Galentine’s Event.
Galentine’s has basically become an actual holiday — companies legitimately run promotions around it. Check out what’s happening in your city and plan a night out for you and your girl gang. Maybe you grab some fondue, learn how to make the perfect floral arrangement, or if you live in Calgary, we would love to see you at Galentine’s Night Out.
2. Pamper Yourselves.
Make a group mani or pedi appointment and spend the day relaxing and feeling good. If you don’t feel like leaving your house (February isn’t always the warmest month), find a mobile spa in your area and get ready for the feel good vibes to be delivered right to your front door.
3. Write a love note.
Remember the days when you used to write a Valentine’s Day card for everyone in the classroom? Spread the love and make a homemade valentine for all of your friends. If you aren’t feeling crafty and ready to bust out your own card making supplies, a quick Google search will pull up tons of free card options you can download and print.
4. Take a Class.
Try something a little different and learn something new together. Maybe it’s a cooking class, a calligraphy class, or slow things down and go to a candle-lit yoga class. The act of doing something together is a great way to bond and enjoy your friendships.
5. Girls Night In.
Whether you have your girl gang over for waffles, wine, or a baking marathon (conversation heart sugar cookies anyone?) is completely up to you. Time really is one of the most valuable things you can give, so set some aside and enjoy each other’s company.
How are you celebrating with your gals this February 13th?
