The changing of the seasons is like the beginning of a new chapter. Now that it’s officially Spring, we’re looking forward to more sunshine, April showers, May flowers, and starting to finally tackle that Spring cleaning checklist (ps: if you’re a member of The Ace Class, make sure you check out the one we put together for you here).
While we are all for the satisfaction you feel after going through your closet, pantry, and generally, all areas of your home, the work shouldn’t stop at streamlining your space. Keep reading for 5 ways you can apply the Spring cleaning mentality to other areas of your life, and get rid of what no longer serves you so you have room to bloom.
1. Your social media follows/friends.
Oh social media. We love you, but sometimes you can be a time-sucking machine. When you scroll through your feed, are you actually seeing inspiring images, and the faces of people you want to stay connected with? Take some time and comb through who you are following — are those accounts you liked to potentially win a new wardrobe or sheets really adding value to your day?
2. Your subscriptions.
It’s a good idea to make sure you aren’t spending money where you don’t need to be. Take stock of any subscriptions you currently have and hit cancel on anything you aren’t using on the regular — do you really need that Amazon Prime account, or do you find yourself shopping more than you maybe would, just to get your “value” out of the fees you’re paying?
3. Toxic relationships.
Simply put, there are people that just aren’t the best for us. Stop investing your time in any relationships where competition, negativity, or selfishness seem to reign supreme. Walking away from someone you’ve known for years can be hard, but take a good look at your dynamic and make sure it’s a positive one.
4. Your unhealthy habits.
When it comes to ourselves, the same applies as the point above. Take a moment and think if the relationship you have with yourself is becoming a little negative. Maybe it’s time to check out what life habits may be causing that. The spring is a great time to remind yourself how important it is to treat your body well, and get that self-care game locked in.
5. Do a digital detox.
The amount of time we spend on our devices takes up a good chunk of our day. Are you really digesting all the information you’re consuming, or do you use it as a filler to get through the day? Maybe it’s time to consider a source other than Facebook or Instagram as your daily news source. Break the staring contest with your screen and try taking a stroll outside, or grab a cup of coffee and read a section of the newspaper, we promise your IG feed will still be there when you get back.
Pro tip: Unsubscribe from all of those random emails that just remind you of the money and clothes you don’t have, and now think you need.
