Some people just know what they were meant to do, and Marie Paquin is one of those people. She has created a company that combines her passion to provide exceptional quality and services, with her desire to build something that gives back to the community, particularly to women in need and high-risk women’s charities. Keep reading to find out where her drive and ambition comes from.
Ace: What are you up to? ( Your current hustle )
Marie: I run an on-location (mobile) spa company called Coastal Bliss. Anything spa that comes to mind, we bring it to you. It's a well thought out, efficient process, right in the comfort of your own home, or any location. My team and I serve all of Calgary and the surrounding areas. It's an innovative treat to yourself and it’s totally on trend for the way the world is headed! We are all so inundated with things to do each day, this just makes taking care of yourself that much more accessible and convenient.
Ace: Why is this important to you? ( Where did this passion come from? )
Marie: My passion for the beauty industry really came from my interest in all things esthetics, starting at a young age — growing up, I used to pretend to charge my family for massages. When I was in middle school I would sneak make-up to school with me, and during my free time I used to spend hours in my bedroom trying new make-up tricks.
Ace: What was your dream job growing up? How do you think this has influenced who you are today?
Marie: Ironically, I think I was made for the industry. It wasn't until thinking about post-secondary education that I realized most of the stuff I was doing on myself and my family was actually a career called 'Esthetics'. I am a fairly chatty person, so when I can marry meeting new people with the fun services I offer, I am in my happy place.
Ace: If you could describe yourself in only three words, what would they be?
Marie: Dynamic, Passionate, Curious.
Ace: Who’s your biggest inspiration and why?
Marie: I would say my son. I want to build something amazing for him, not only to provide for him, but to also encourage him to chase whatever his dreams are. To be an example of perseverance, and show him that when you put your mind to something, and really go after it, it can happen.
Ace: What does the term “Boss Babe” mean to you?
Marie: "Boss Babe" to me is a fierce woman who goes after what she desires in life.
Ace: How do you empower other women?
Marie: I learn more ways to do this each day, but I believe people are much more capable than they think they are. I always show my belief in them and act as a cheerleader; celebrate the wins and show support at the road blocks and pitfalls. I aim to lead by example.
Ace: What is the best advice you’ve ever received from another woman?
Marie: Though I surround myself with amazing women, I think a phrase that I hold onto, and I am not sure who said it is, "If we could see each other's souls, we would redefine beauty." I also find Mel Robbins has some profound statements like this one, reminding us to go after what we want: "You need to hear this loud and clear, no one is coming. It is up to you."
Ace: Can you share the biggest lesson you’ve learned from a failure?
Marie: With all of my failures I have learned more than what I have from my successes, and I’ve taken away multiple lessons. The biggest one? Be more rational than emotional.
Ace: When you are feeling overwhelmed, what do you do to find peace?
Marie: I talk to my closest friends, meditate, and trusting the process is huge for me. A good bear hug from my son is also a great way for me to feel a little less overwhelmed and more focused on the present moment.
Ace: What legacy do you hope to be remembered for?
Marie: #1 is my son — just a mother's love. Also, the woman's group I have founded, we hope to touch and change a lot of lives in a very meaningful and impactful way, and to build out Coastal Bliss as big as I dream it can be.
Ace: Where can we find out more about you so we can continue to support you?
